Google PlayStore tells that IDM extension may soon no longer be supported. Why does it happen? Will IDM keep working in Chrome?
IDM Integration Module extension still works! Do not worry, IDM will not stop working and we will keep supporting Chrome.
This warning is shown for plugins that do not support Manifest 3 standard yet. We will release extension update with support of this manifest in nearest time. So, our extension will continue to work normally and there is no reason to worry.
You need to open "Options->General" IDM dialog and enable "Extend the availability of Manifest 2 Chrome extensions" option. Then it should be possible to enable our extension. Perhaps you will have to restart Google Chrome (if it was running).
If you do not see this option, please make sure that you have installed the latest version of IDM.
After this Chrome may show warniung that it is managed by your organization. Do not worry about this message. Usually it is shown on computers where admin of organization installed something and has access to manage computer. But Google also unreasonably shows this message when only one variable is changed in registry, although no any real admin access is granted.
Please note that the functionality of Manifest 3 is worse than the current Manifest 2 version of extension. Google limited many functions in Manifest 3, they took them away from extension developers.
For example, we cannot try to take over downloads on request and then return the download back to Chrome if it's not IDM download. Google specifically disallowed it in Manifest 3. That's the reason we are still not switching to Manifest 3 version of extension.
We will release update for our extension in the future when Chrome stops support Manifest 2 completely.
Currently we have test version for extension for Manifest 3. You can try it here:
